SA v SL PREVIEW: BET BOOSTS AND TIPS

SA v SL PREVIEW AND BET BOOSTS

It’s a weird match to predict because both sides are motivated by different objectives.

Although they are still alive in the competition, Sri Lanka’s recent record against South Africa does not make for great reading.

So much depends on South Africa’s mentality heading into the match. It’s been a draining month in England. It should be interesting to see the response they provide at Chester-le-Street

Sri Lanka will want to continue the suffering for the Proteas. That’s why they require their batsmen to match the performances of their bowling attack to reverse their poor record against their opponents.

BET:

Can things get any worse for South Africa? Well, yes they can. Especially considering they’ll face a buoyant Sri Lankan team. The Proteas have endured their worst World Cup campaign. They have no chance of progressing into the knockout phase of the competition.

There is a flip side to this negativity. Some players might subconsciously realise that the ‘real’ pressure is off. Now they can break free from the shackles which have clearly troubled them.

This is the perfect occasion for the South African batsmen to show their obvious quality. The batting unit have a chance against Sri Lanka to change the narrative about their personal World Cups.

Captain Faf du Plessis, who is running out of things to say, will be keen to window shine over his already poor World Cup captaincy statistics.

BET:

The underestimated Sri Lankans are still alive in this World Cup after a major upset. They beat hosts and pre-tournament favourites England by 20 runs. They’ll feel it’s a great opportunity to make a late charge for a semi-final berth. And they’ll certainly be feeling they could knock the already downtrodden Proteas.

They can take inspiration from Pakistan’s victory over the Black Caps on Wednesday. Like them, if Sri Lanka beat South Africa it would create a fascinating run scramble for places in the final four.

Sri Lanka are currently seventh which does not matter as they are only trailing fourth-placed England by two points. A win would launch them into to fifth and would exert pressure on a wobbly English side and others around.

BET:

A sunny day is predicted in Durham. Rain should not play any part in this match. It’s also the first match of the World Cup played at Chester-le-Street.

The last ODI at the venue was a year ago. England and Australia produced a high-scoring encounter. England impressively chased down a 311-run target inside 45 overs.
