Betting Preview
Kolkata Knight Riders take on the Delhi Capitals this afternoon at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Capitals’ win against Rajasthan Royals means they are effectively through to the knockout stages. There is still a mathematical chance that they could be eliminated before but no side has ever missed out on qualification with 16 points, their current tally. Two wins from their final four games should be enough to seal a top-two spot and a double-chance to reach the final – so the rest of the group stage will be as much about honing their combination and strategy as results themselves.
Delhi continued their strong form since the IPL restart with a 33-run win against the struggling Rajasthan Royals to follow an eight-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings. They will be eyeing another win against the Knight Riders, against whom they have won five of the last six matches.
Ricky Ponting’s side have pinned much of their season on the big-name opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, The Capitals batted sensibly against Rajasthan, eking their way to a par score of 154/6 before relying on their dominant bowling lineup to stifle the Royals, which they duly did in limiting Rajasthan to 121/6. The Capitals bowlers have thus far claimed a season total of 66 wickets, while their batsmen have given away only 41 wickets, 20 fewer than KKR’s total of 61 dismissals. Their batting has been led by veteran, Shikar Dhawan with a tally of 430 runs at an average of 47.77.
For Kolkata Knight Riders, the situation is very different. After starting the UAE leg of the tournament with consecutive wins while chasing, Knight Riders were squeezed out by Chennai Super Kings on Sunday in a final-over thriller to leave them fourth – but level on points with the teams in fifth to seventh, including Rajasthan who play their game in hand against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday.
Although they have now won three of their last five matches, Kolkata still remain entrenched in the middle of the IPL standings and will need a victory against Delhi to stay competitive for the remainder of the tournament. With just ten victories in their 22 matches played in the UAE, they might face an uphill battle to achieve this goal so I’m Backing the Rishabh Pant-led side to take this one.
Stat Attack
KKR opener Shubman Gill has passed 20 in just two of his last seven IPL innings.
Delhi have recorded the highest opening partnership in three of the last four H2H matches.
The largest first innings score in the last six IPL games at Sharjah is just 156 (average 135.5).
KKR have recorded the most sixes in three of the last four H2H matches.
Players To Watch
KKR’s West Indian allrounder Andre Russell evidently enjoys facing Delhi amid a strike rate of 182.78 with the bat and 13 wickets even though he is a doubt for this match. He will likely have to contend with Prithvi Shaw, who averages 64.60 against the Knight Riders and has a tally of 329 runs to his name this season.
