Betting Preview

Indian Premier League’s (IPL) sixth match sees Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday night. In the 18 matches played, 10 have been won by SRH while RCB have gotten over the line 7 times. Although SRH have a better head to head record, they’re coming into the match with a loss against KKR while RCB beat the reigning champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL opener.

RCB were tactically spot on in most of their decisions during the first fixture against MI. The move to send Glenn Maxwell in the middle overs and saving AB de Villiers for the back end paid dividends. Their batting unit could be very destructive if Kohli and Maxwell both fire consistently, that way they can time the entry points of de Villiers. RCB’s new recruit from New Zealand, Kyle Jamieson looked very impressive in the first match while Harshal Patel nailed the yorkers and variations to perfection. Yuzvendra Chahal’s form could be a big worry for them.

In complete contrast to RCB, Sunrisers Hyderabad were completely inept in their decision-making against KKR. The Warner-led SRH played two spinners on a slow pitch and didn’t have an express pace bowler. The decision to send their only power-hitter, Abdul Samad so late in the innings cost them. Apart from this, the new ball seamers of SRH bowled too wide and allowed KKR batsmen to get on top. Chasing a big target, SRH lost their biggest hope Warner early. Bairstow carried his form and brought SRH back in the game. Manish Pandey did score a fifty but his scoring rate from the start was questionable.

Injury and Availability News

Kane Williamson missed the first match of SRH due to fitness issues. According to SRH management, he will need a few days to regain his full fitness. RCB’s Adam Zampa and Finn Allen will be available for selection after completing quarantine.

Pitch and Conditions

M. A. Chidambaram – Chepauk Stadium, which had an average first innings score of 144 in 2019, has been a bit tricky this season. The pitches at this venue have so far have offered some help to bowlers but the batsmen have been able to score at a brisk rate. The teams have scored 159, 160, 187 & 177 in the first two matches at Chepauk in IPL 2021.

Key Players to Watch Out For

Glenn Maxwell: The Australian batsman has seen numerous failures season after season in IPL. Yet franchises line up to acquire him in the auction every year due to his exceptional skill set. Maxwell started this edition well with a terrific knock of 39 off 28 deliveries against MI. He pounced on MI spinners and took the game away from them in the middle overs. Maxwell has scored 1780 runs in international T20s at an average of nearly 32 and a strike rate of 158.92. RCB would hope he emulates that performance in IPL 2021.

AB de Villiers: Arguably the best all-format batsman has pulled RCB out of the holes on numerous occasions. AB de Villiers started the 2021 edition doing just that when he helped RCB chase down 160 against MI. Walking in in the 13th over, de Villiers took on MI bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah. MI had no answers to this freak of a player. AB de Villiers has 4897 runs to his name in IPL at an average of 40.5 and a strike rate of 152.1.

Jonny Bairstow: England’s destructive batsman has been one of the best white ball batsmen in the world. Jonny Bairstow has always obliged to the team’s demands and has adjusted his game time and again. Bairstow, who originally rose to the top by doing well as an opener, has recently taken the role of a middle-order spin basher and safe to say he’s done an outstanding job so far. For England, Bairstow averages 38 and strikes at 143 batting at number 3 and 4.

Rashid Khan: SRH’s lethal weapon has won them matches single-handedly countless times. Rashid Khan is an unbelievably skillful leg spinner who’s nearly impossible for batsmen to figure out. Rashid has had his best IPL season in the last year with 20 wickets at an economy of less than 6. In his first this season, he picked 2 wickets for only 24 runs on a day where 364 runs were scored in 20 overs. He’ll be itching to go up against the star-studded line up of RCB.
