Betting Preview

Both teams are coming off thumping wins. The Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 54 runs and finally seemed to have found their best XI and best combination. Jonny Bairstow has found form after being moved to the top of the order, hitting fifties in the last two games. His blazing knock against Royal Challengers allowed Liam Livingstone to play himself in before going on an all-out attack.

In the bowling department, Rishi Dhawan has shown he can shoulder the responsibility of the fifth bowler, while the inclusion of Harpreet Brar has given them another spin option. The two also strengthen their lower order.

Their concern is that they have to defeat a side that comfortably beat Rajasthan in their last outing. Punjab’s bowlers will have to be at their very best to take the crucial two points. PBKS have the worst economy rate (8.98rpo) in this year’s campaign and will next go up against the fastest scoring batting unit (9.04rpo for Delhi).

The Capitals crushed RR in their previous outing. David Warner has been consistent for them and Mitchell Marsh’s form will boost them. Against Royals, Marsh hit 89 off 62 balls, apart from picking up 2 for 25 from his three overs. Chetan Sakariya, too, stepped up in the absence of Khaleel Ahmed, registering figures of 4-0-23-2. They will, however, be expecting more from Anrich Nortje while keeping an eye on Prithvi Shaw’s fitness.

Both sides have played twice over the last month at DY Patil Stadium with one win apiece, which gives neither team an advantage when it comes to the venue. 165 appears to be the ‘magic number’ for whichever team is tasked with batting first. All but one of the eight first-innings totals of 165+ at the stadium this IPL season have been successfully defended, whilst nine of the ten scores of under 165 were chased down.

Delhi Capitals have dominated the Punjab Kings in the last few seasons, and this will add to their confidence. Ricky Ponting’s side have been inconsistent this season as they have yet to win back-to-back matches so the best bet would be for Punjab Kings to win.

Key Stat

Delhi have won five of the last six H2Hs including the previous match of this season.

All but one of the last 11 H2Hs have been won by the team with the most powerplay runs.

The chasing team has won 72% of all matches between these two sides.

Delhi have won five of the seven H2Hs played at neutral venues.

Rahul Chahar has never dismissed David Warner in a T20, conceding more than ten runs per over (0/61 at 10.76rpo).

Kagiso Rabada has dismissed Warner five times in 83 balls. But Warner has taken 124 off him, at a strike rate of 149.39.

Kuldeep has dismissed Shikhar Dhawan twice in 37 balls while giving away only 34 runs.

Players to Watch

Kagiso Rabada failed in the reverse fixture against his former side (0/35 from 3) but approaches this game in much better form, taking 2+ wickets in all but one of his last five matches (for 14). He has claimed the scalp of David Warner five times in all T20s at an average of 22 runs per wicket.
