Betting Preview

Rajasthan have a two-point advantage over Delhi Capitals and RCB with the latter at a big disadvantage due to their NRR. A small margin loss won’t be calamitous while a win will push them above Lucknow and confirm a second-placed finish. That may look fancy but three losses in their last five matches suggest the momentum may have slipped away, after starting the season with six wins in the first eight.

RR received a massive boost with the return of Shimron Hetmyer after missing two games for the birth of his child. His 19 sixes in the last five overs remain the most among all batters in IPL 2022. Add the return in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form, Devdutt Padikkal successfully batting at No. 4, the potential of Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson gives enough confidence. They will look to exploit a struggling Super Kings’ bowling unit that has not been among the wickets, taking only eight scalps in their last two games.

Chennai have nothing but pride to play for, as they can’t finish better than ninth irrespective of the result. However, a heavy loss here could possibly push them to the wooden spoon, currently occupied by their rivals Mumbai Indians. There’s no better incentive than that for Chennai to pull up their socks and reverse a recent losing trend against Rajasthan, after just one win in their last four encounters.

In Super Kings’ previous game, they made four changes that appeared to show that they were looking ahead to IPL 2023. Against an in-form Gujarat Titans side, their batting felt flat in their score of 133 for 5, and the bowlers were simply not experienced enough to trouble a batting side that was high on confidence. In the Royals, they’re up against a side with who are just as confident.

It’s a difficult one to call considering CSK have nothing to lose while on the other hand, RR can finish in the top two with a win. Put your money on the side that has played the far better cricket this season, Rajasthan Royals.

Key Stat

Moeen Ali, to take the new ball for the Super Kings? Moeen has dismissed Buttler three times in six T20s.

In the 11 games where Hetmyer has played for the Royals, they hit a six every 7.6 balls in the last five overs. In the two games without Hetmyer, the Royals have averaged one six every 30 balls between overs 16-20.

The last five first-innings scores at this venue have been at least 170.

Brabourne boasts the highest average powerplay score of the season among all four venues (52) but seven of the last ten such scores here have been below that average.

Rajasthan scored the highest powerplay score of the match in seven of their last ten matches against Chennai. They also did so in eight of their last ten matches this season.

Chennai have conceded the most match sixes in nine of their last 14 matches against Rajasthan, but only once in their last nine matches, scoring more in seven and tied once.

Players to Watch

Trent Boult has taken the most match wickets for Rajasthan in three of their last four matches and taken at least one wicket in his last five matches against Chennai. For Chennai, the young left-arm bowler Mukesh Choudhary has improved as the season moved on (16 wickets) and he has 2+ wickets in three of his last five matches.
