IPL

Monday’s will see Mumbai Indians play host to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in what is a massive game for both sides. SRH still have a lot to play for while Mumbai’s playoff hopes are all but over. We’ve prepared the best bets for Match 55 of IPL 2024.

Venue: Wankhede Stadium

Betting Preview

In 2022, after a discouraging streak of eight consecutive losses, they found their stride and won four of their last six games, showing improved form once the pressure eased. They narrowly missed a fifth victory, falling just four runs short of a 194-run target set by the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium. Despite this close call, the Sunrisers have struggled at Wankhede, with a record of ten losses in twelve matches. However, after Kolkata recently ended their own 12-year drought at the venue, the Sunrisers might be poised for a rare win there.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are grappling with their own challenges, losing over seven wickets in five consecutive matches this season. Even with the Impact Player rule, their finishers are constrained, struggling with a league-worst middle overs bowling economy of 9.97 RPO. After back-to-back defeats at Wankhede, their first since 2018, the team is struggling to find form.

On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are riding high after a nail-biting one-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals, with Pat Cummins and T Natarajan clutch in the final overs. Known for high-scoring games, their matches this season are averaging nearly 410 runs, emphasising their potent batting and leaky bowling.

With five wins in their last seven games, the Sunrisers have moved into the top four, eyeing a top-two finish for a significant playoff advantage. They’re looking to surpass last season’s three away wins before returning home for a series of games, potentially securing a strong playoff position. This stretch is crucial for Hyderabad as they aim to end their longest playoff drought in three seasons.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have been phenomenal with the bat but are the worst team this season when it comes to bowling. Despite that, they should have enough to beat a struggling MI side.

Players to Watch: Mumbai fast bowler Gerald Coetzee copped a hiding in Hyderabad earlier this season, finishing with an unenviable return of 1/57. Having finished with 0/1 wickets in four of his first five home appearances of this season, there’s not much to suggest he’s in for a considerably better time here.

Sunrisers’ then-record score of 277/3 against Mumbai in that game saw three half-centuries at strike rates of 235+, one of which came from opener Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek has been consistent away from home if nothing else, being dismissed for 16-34 runs in five of his six away innings and making 46 against Delhi in the other.
