There’s plenty of fascinating to look forward to this weekend coming your way from Turffontein and Scottsville.
Turffontein (Saturday)
Race 2 – Stratospheric
Stratospheric brings some attractive form to the race and looks to be a winner amongst maidens in this field. The former Justin Snaith-trained gelding raids Gauteng, now with the Tony Peter stable. In-form jockey Keagan De Melo gets the ride here and should find relative ease in beating this field. Multiple winners have come out to frank the form lines, making this the best bet of the day.
Race 5 – Light Of The Moon
The value bet of the day comes in Race 5 with Muzi Yeni aboard Light Of The Moon. The 4-year-old daughter of Futura is much better than her last run in the Grade 1 Summer Cup and could find a return to form here. She carries a handy galloping mass of just 52.5kgs and could utilize her front-running tactics to her advantage. Yeni knows this filly better than anybody and should be able to coax a bit extra out of her from barrier gate 1.
Race 9 – Celtic Rumours
Celtic Rumours looks to be the pick of the bunch in Race 9 with Gavin Lerena on board for the Sean Tarry stable. The daughter of Vercingetorix had legitimate excuses in her post-maiden run when finishing second behind Cold Fact. In her penultimate run, she won by over four lengths in her only attempt over this distance and should take a power of beating.
Race 10 – Mover And Shaker
One of the better bets on the card comes much later in the day with Mover And Shaker likely to win Race 10. He’s been racing against the much tougher company and is by far, the top-rated horse in the race. Siyanda Sosibo takes 2.5kgs off his back to carry 60kgs and should claim a second successive win, after emphatically trouncing his opponent’s last run.
Scottsville (Sunday)
Race 1 – Warrior Of Royalty
Warrior Of Royalty looks to be the best colt of the raced runners in this contest. Robert Khathi retains the ride for the Nathan Kotzen yard and after his impressive second place on debut, he does look the horse to beat in this lineup.
Race 3 – Pixie In Love
Pixie In Love has improved in her last two runs, finishing second twice. The daughter of What A Winter gets pole position today and with apprentice Malesela Katjedi claiming 1.5kgs, the pair should improve to go one better and break the maidens in this fairly favourable contest.
Race 5 – Mel’s Princess
There is something about Scottsville that brings Mel’s Princess to display her best form and we saw it last time as she ran third. Siphesihle Hlengwa gets the ride and with the 2.5kg claim, this in-form apprentice should really aid her in the best possible way to get into the winners’ box in this tricky contest.
Race 7 – Sashay Away
Sashay Away didn’t enjoy the tough conditions of the highveld in her last start and went on a short break. She’s back in her home ground here and her class should prevail. Siphesihle Hlengwa gets the ride and if everything goes according to plan in the race, she should notch up another win in this contest.
