Betting Trends: Top 5 European Leagues

With the season just past the halfway mark in all of Europe’s five biggest leagues, we have a look at trends which might aid betting in each one — particularly on the top clubs.

Liverpool top the home and away Premier League tables, but not all teams have managed to remain consistent across fixtures on both their own turf and enemy territory.

Manchester United sit fourth on the home table, but 10th on the away standings. Tottenham, meanwhile, sit sixth at home and a lowly 12th away.

By contrast, Chelsea and Arsenal have fared comparatively better away from home this season. The Blues sit eighth on the home standings and fourth on the away table, while the Gunners are 13th and ninth respectively. Perhaps Arsène Wenger was correct to claim that Arsenal ““.

  • Most BTTS: Wolves (19)

  • Most Corners for: Man City (202)

  • Most Over 2.5 goals: Man City (20)

  • Most Wins to nil: Liverpool (9)

This has been a season of upsets with Barcelona and Real Madrid each having dropped 17 points at the time of writing and Atlético Madrid having squandered 25.

Barca’s away league record leaves a lot to be desired with four wins, three draws and three defeats.

Real Madrid are putting together a decent run of form with four straight victories in all competitions including one on penalties over Atlético Madrid in the Supercopa de España.

Mallorca are the league’s worst away team with one point from nine league games on the road compared to 17 from 11 at home.

  • Most BTTS: Betis (16)

  • Most Corners for: Sevilla (127)

  • Most Over 2.5 goals: Villarreal (15)

  • Most Wins to nil: Granada & Sevilla (8)

Cristiano Ronaldo is coming into his own again with 12 goals from his last nine appearances in all competitions. Following two straight Serie A draws, Inter Milan have fallen four points behind Ronaldo’s Juventus at the top of the table.

Inter’s last four games in all competitions have seen goals at both ends — perhaps a sign that it is worth betting on BTTS (both teams to score) when they come up against high-scoring opponents. However, they are in the middle of a busy transfer window and perhaps it is worth waiting to see how the Nerazzurri’s team looks at the end of it.

AC Milan have found some form with three wins in a row in all competitions. It might be worth backing the Rossoneri as they continue their rise up the table.

  • Most BTTS: Bologna (16)

  • Most Corners for: Roma (147)

  • Most Over 2.5 goals: Atalanta & Sassuolo (16)

  • Most Wins to nil: Lazio & Inter (6)

Erling Braut Haaland is the name on everyone’s lips after his hat-trick on debut for Borussia Dortmund in the 5-3 win over Augsburg.

Haaland only played 34 minutes of that match, making his achievement all the more impressive. He is definitely a player who looks like he will waste no time scoring plenty more goals for Dortmund.

Dortmund, Bayern and Leipzig have each seen a combined total of over 70 goals for and against in 18 league games played this season. These are teams to watch in the over 3.5 goals market — or perhaps win/over 3.5 goals, since they are all in the top four.

  • Most BTTS: RB Leipzig (14)

  • Most Corners for: Frankfurt (130)

  • Most Over 2.5 goals: Bayern & Dortmund (16)

  • Most Wins to nil: Bayern (6)

In the anytime goalscorer market, consistency is key. If you’re backing a player to find the net, it is generally a good idea to go with somebody who rarely experiences dips in form.

Kylian Mbappé may not be the first player you’d back to score hat-tricks, but he has been troubling the scorers almost without fail of late. The Paris Saint-Germain star has netted in nine of his last 10 appearances in all competitions.

PSG and Monaco are the two big scorers in the league with 50 and 35 goals respectively. The latter’s leaky defence means they generally see lots of goals at both ends. Their last three fixtures have each seen over 3.5.

  • Most BTTS: Amiens & Nice (15)

  • Most Corners for: PSG (129)

  • Most Over 2.5 goals: Monaco (15)

  • Most Wins to nil: PSG (11)
