Super Rugby AU: Round 3 Predictions

The Reds welcome the Western Force to the Suncorp Stadium in Super Rugby AU on Friday. And then the Waratahs host the dangerous Brumbies in Sydney.

We preview each match in Round 3 of Super Rugby AU.

Friday 17 July

11:05 – Reds vs Western Force

Last week the Reds came back from being 18-8 down with five minutes to play to draw 18-18 away to the young Rebels side. Extra time couldn’t separate the teams either which means the points were shared. The week before they beat the Waratahs 32-26 in their Super Rugby AU opener. Unlike last week, the Reds are favourited this weekend and they will hope for maximum points against the Force.

The Waratahs ruined the Western Force’s return to Super Rugby after suffering a 23-14 loss. The Force did race to an early 14-0 lead despite the wet conditions but the Waratahs were too good in the second half. The match was not a classic by any stretch of the imagination. After being in the wilderness for so long, the Force will need to acclimatise to standards of quality once again.

Weather conditions are set to be clear in Brisbane which should suit the Reds style and they should have enough quality to see off the Force.

Prediction: Reds by 17

11:05 – Waratahs v Brumbies

After trailing to the Western Force 14-0 early on, the Waratahs eventually eked out a 23-14 win. In Round 1, the Waratahs began the Super Rugby AU with an away loss to the Reds, 32-26, against a team they were unbeaten in 11 previous encounters.

The Brumbies were on a bye last week and they return to action looking to make it two wins from two. In Round 1 they beat the Rebels 31-23 in Canberra, scoring five tries to two with a bonus point included. S the Brumbies are definitely the team to beat in this competition. They also made light work of the Tah’s earlier this year beating them 47-14. Although the Brumbies might be rusty after their bye week so this could be a tighter affair.

Prediction: Brumbies by 10
