PSL Betting Guide: DStv Premiership Mid-Week Action

The Dstv Premiership champions are back in action against AmaZulu on Wednesday.

Orlando Pirates

The Dstv Premiership champions are back in action against AmaZulu on Wednesday. Orlando Pirates welcomes Royal AM while Supersport United hosts Stellenbosch. There are no easy fixtures, maybe a cliche, but with so much at stake, we are likely to see some close encounters this week. We dug up some stats to bring more context to this Dstv Prem mid-week action.

Orlando Pirates v Royal AM

Orlando Pirates are flying at the moment, and are the last opponent that Royal AM (or any team) wants to face. Worse still, Pirates have already beaten them twice this season – once in the league and once in the MTN8. But the real reason Bucs are favoured has more to do with their form, not what happened months ago. Jose Riveiro’s side can set a new record for consecutive league wins by the club if they collect all three points, and they also have a chance to secure the double here. They are the league’s top scorers this year, while their visitors have been leaky.

41 – Royal AM have conceded more goals than any other side this season (41).

AmaZulu v Sundowns

Two years ago, these teams were involved in a title battle, and this fixture looked like it had the potential to be a title decider for years to come. But a lot has happened since, especially at AmaZulu. Usuthu are probably safe from the chop now, but to even be a part of this conversation shows how far they have fallen. Meanwhile, Sundowns are chasing a PSL record for points in a PSL campaign (they need two wins in their last three games). Having said that, Downs haven’t scored on their last two visits here, with their last goals coming pre-pandemic.

1 – This is the only away fixture in which Sundowns have failed to score since the pandemic.

Cape Town City v Golden Arrows

Eric Tinkler couldn’t have asked for a kinder fixture to cap off an unusually congested week. Not only have Arrows failed to beat City in seven matches since 2019, but they have also shipped 15 goals in those games with Over 3.5 conceded on three separate occasions. Tinkler’s side may be out of CAF contention, but there is still lots to play for when you consider how Chiefs (4th) are stumbling. The five-goal hammering Arrows suffered v Stellies down the road a few days ago will have City licking their lips, and punters too.

2 – Arrows have failed to score just twice away from home this season, with Sundowns & Chippa (both 1) firing fewer blanks on the road.

Maritzburg United v Marumo Gallants

16th v 14th with three games to play and three points between them is a classic “relegation six-pointer”. Both teams home-away records have been horrendous, and are reflective of their current position. Maritzburg have won one of 10 home games since September (W1 D2 L7 all comps), while Gallants have won one of 13 away games since October (W1 D5 L7 all comps). The visitors have incredible CAF form to build on, but the hosts have the slight edge in that they are unbeaten in three games in this particular tie (D2 L1). Yet, all games have been tight.

5 – The last five games between the sides have seen 4 goals: Two 1-0 wins aside & a 0-0 draw.
