PSL PREDICTIONS – MATCHDAY 2

With Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns on CAF Champions League duty over the upcoming weekend, there are six scheduled Absa Premiership fixtures in matchday 2. Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows are each predicted to make it two wins from two matches.

Bidvest Wits started off in style with a resounding 3-0 away win over AmaZulu. They cannot afford to let complacency creep in against a Baroka outfit which held Cape Town City to a 2-2 draw in matchday 1.

Nevertheless, the Clever Boys should be too strong on home soil at Bidvest Stadium.

Prediction: Bidvest Wits Win 2-1

Highlands Park were edged 3-2 by Kaizer Chiefs in their opening fixture, but at least new signing Rodney Ramagalela hit the ground running with a goal. Maritzburg United also head into this match on the back foot after going down 1-0 to Golden Arrows.

Eric Tinkler’s men are in a difficult position after losing Siphesihle Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe to Orlando Pirates, but home advantage at the Harry Gwala Stadium should help them. The Team of Choice are tipped to hold onto a point.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw

A new derby hits the Mother City with the days of Ajax Cape Town vs. Santos in the Absa Premiership well in the past. Both Cape Town City and Stellenbosch were held to draws in their opening league fixtures, so this could set the tone for the season ahead.

Cape Town City squandered a 2-0 lead away to Baroka, ultimately drawing 2-2. Stellenbosch, meanwhile, were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Chippa United in Port Elizabeth.

Both teams have done smart business in the transfer window, but City are the better side on paper and are usually tremendously strong at home. I expect them to pick up their first win of the season at Cape Town Stadium, but Stellenbosch are backed to go down fighting.

Prediction: Cape Town City Win 2-1

After a nightmare season last term and a troubled pre-season, Amakhosi are back to winning ways having beaten Highlands Park 3-2. Lebogang Manyama starred with a brace while Mulomowandau Mathoho also scored.

Next up for Kaizer Chiefs is a match at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium against Black Leopards, a who tend to struggle on the road. Lidoda Duvha went down 1-0 to Polokwane City at home in their opener and life isn’t about to get any easier for them.

A narrow Chiefs win is the tip here, as Amakhosi are still shaking off a few jitters but should be too strong for Lionel Soccoia’s side.

Prediction: Kaizer Chiefs Win 1-0

Golden Arrows have not been the most active side in the transfer market, but early signs are that they could be a surprise package this season. After clinching the KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Cup in pre-season, they edged Maritzburg United 1-0 in a provincial league derby.

Bloem Celtic were valiant in defeat to Orlando Pirates, but off-field problems have not yet been solved and they have lost the likes of Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bongani Sam and Kabelo Dlamini.

Arrows have enough quality to pull off an away win at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.

Prediction: Golden Arrows Win 1-0
