When does the 2025/26 Champions League start?

The 2025/26 campaign kicks off on Tuesday the 16th of September at 5.45pm with Arsenal the first English team in action with a tricky-looking away trip to Basque Country to take on Athletic Bilbao at San Mames. Why are six English teams in the Champions League?

The Premier League usually has four qualification spots for the Champions League, which last season were occupied by league champions Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea. Fifth-placed Newcastle became a beneficiary of English success in Europe through the European Performance Spots (EPS). The EPS are awarded to the football associations with the highest coefficient come the end of the season’s UEFA competitions.

Five qualification spots then became six for this season when Tottenham and Manchester United set up their 2024/25 Europa League final showdown in Bilbao. That guaranteed an English winner of the Europa League trophy and - therefore - ensured an additional place in Europe's premier competition.

In the UK, you will be able to watch the 2025/26 Champions League across TNT Sports and also on Amazon Prime Video. Prime Video will have the first-pick of matches on Tuesday evenings and TNT Sports have the rights to show every other match from the 2025/26 Champions League including the 2026 UEFA Champions League final on TV.

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final takes place on Saturday, 30th May 2026 at an earlier kick-off time of 17:00 BST.

The 2025/26 UEFA Champions League final will be played in Budapest, Hungary at the Puskás Aréna. The stadium is the home of the Hungarian national football team, was named after legendary striker Ferenc Puskás and has an official capacity of 67,215.
